London-Emergency personnel transport 11 individuals to the hospital and evacuate 130 as a significant fire overtakes a Kensington townhouse repurposed into apartments.

Eleven individuals were hospitalized and 130 were evacuated following a fire in a converted terraced house in South Kensington yesterday evening.

Approximately 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines responded to the incident on Emperor’s Gate in South Kensington, which ignited around 12:30 am on Friday, March 1.

According to the London Fire Brigade, two people were saved from a flat on the second floor, one from a flat on the first floor, and another two from a fourth-floor apartment.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service reported that 11 individuals received treatment at the scene before being transported to London hospitals and major trauma centers.

The London Fire Brigade stated that the injuries were primarily due to smoke inhalation.

Station Commander Steve Collins reported: “The blaze extended from the ground floor up to the top floor and roof of the building.

“Firefighting teams are diligently working to confine the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures.

“Road closures have been implemented and are expected to continue into the morning commute, so drivers should steer clear of the area. However, train services are not affected and will operate as usual.”

Emergency personnel are still present at the location.

The origin of the fire remains undetermined.

Recorded footage from the location displays the fire consuming the roof and upper level of the building while firefighters attempt to extinguish the flames.

Social media videos depict numerous emergency response teams at the scene, with barriers established to restrict public access.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) announced: “A fire at a terraced house converted into flats on Emperor’s Gate in South Kensington has necessitated the response of fifteen fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters.

“The ground floor of the five-story building is half engulfed in flames. About 15 individuals evacuated the building before the arrival of the Brigade.

“The Brigade received the call at 00:31 and remains on site. Firefighting units from Kensington, Fulham, Battersea, Hammersmith, Chelsea, North Kensington, and nearby stations are responding.

“At this time, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.”

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea posted: “We are informed of the ongoing incident and are coordinating with emergency services to provide assistance.
